Family Teams

What is a Family Team?
A Family Team is a group of walkers who join together to raise money for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. The team can be as small as a family of four or can include hundreds of walkers (i.e. relatives, friends, neighbors, or coworkers). Whether small or large, family teams have one thing in common- all are walking to help find a cure for a loved one. Starting a family team is a great way to get family members and friends together to show their support of that loved one.

How to Get Started?
Once you have decided to participate in the Walk to Cure Diabetes as a family team, the first thing you need to do is REGISTER HERE.  The next step is choosing a Team Captain to lead your Family Team.

What/Who is a Team Captain?
A Team Captain is the leader of your team. Some families choose the child with type 1 diabetes as their captain, while others choose the mom or dad. The Team Captain will be the person who receives letters, phone calls and emails from JDRF volunteers and staff and helps to motivate other team members to raise money towards the team goal.

Help Along the Way
You will be receiving phone calls and emails from our Family Team Chairs as well as JDRF staff. They will touch base with you to see how you are doing and to offer any advice along the way. Please don’t be afraid to ask questions — we’re here to help! You can also take a look at our Family Team Guide Booklet!

If you have any questions, please contact McKenzie Graham at (405) 810-0070 or mgraham@jdrf.org.
